I have had the pleasure of working with the developers, James Bauckman and Angelique Burrell, of ChildcareSpaces.com since early Spring 2025. Both individuals are professional, attentive and helpful. Their commitment to serving families is admirable and highly valued. The program provides a stream-lined solution to a previously unavailable and highly needed service. They promptly return texts, emails and phone calls. When the new software became available, questions were answered in language comprehensible to all levels of understanding.
The company provides a safe choice for temporary and last-minute childcare. All providers are licensed by the State and located throughout Whatcom County. As a provider, I often receive calls requesting drop-in care, a service I do not provide. Before Childcare Spaces, I was unfamiliar with any facility in Whatcom County that delivered the service. Childcare Spaces offers a reliable and secure alternative for reference.
The program serves families who receive financial assistance, as well as those who pay out-of-pocket. Out-of-pocket rates are reasonable. Childcare Spaces bills the payor for those receiving assistance. Providers provide a monthly invoice and receive reimbursement at the rate set by the State.
The software is straightforward and user-friendly for both the client and provider. The ability for new clients to complete the paperwork online limits the time and transportation necessity for completion. Providers have immediate access to the information when a referral is received.
James and Angelique offer an accessible option for temporary care. Their system of service addresses all the necessary components of a well-developed program. I recommend the program to both providers and families without hesitation.

My name is Nathan and I'm the Education Manager at the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA). This was our first experience working with Child Care Spaces, and we are impressed with our experience working with James, Angelique, and the rest of the staff. They have been very responsive to communication, including scheduling in-person meetings to talk about program updates and exciting launches, like the website. The site has been easy to use from our provider perspective, and seeing the interface from the family perspective, it appears that it is user-friendly too. We have had spaces filled through this partnership and are very grateful for the strong collaboration we have with ChildCare Spaces and the meaningful service they are providing to local families.

Partnering with Childcare Spaces has been a truly positive and supportive experience. The process of working with their team has been straightforward and collaborative from the start. The program has played an important role in helping us connect more families in need of care to our services, which has had a noticeable impact on the local community.

Not only does the Childcare Spaces platform help families find safe, reliable childcare, but it has also increased our visibility and contributed to the sustainability and growth of our business. We've also really appreciated the hands-on support from the staff—especially during times when we've needed clarification or guidance. Their team is consistently responsive, knowledgeable, and encouraging.
We look forward to continuing this valuable partnership.

In a context where finding childcare for our youngest family members is so very stressful, for example: seeking out places while even considering starting a family - and being placed on multiple year long waitlists, childcare spaces fills a dire need in our community. What Childcare Spaces is doing is so awesome - people have a hard time believing they actually provide this service, but they do.

What Childcare Spaces is doing is so awesome - people have a hard time believing they actually provide this service, but they do. My regular daycare started a new trend - closing early one day a month, shockingly before the regular time for naps ended, as well as randomly closing for entire days. I reached out to Childcare Spaces to see if this was a gap in my childcare needs they could help with - and they said they could - and they did. They found us a space at another childcare center that could take my 2-year-old on those days when our regular childcare center was closed or was closing early. What a lifesaver! I am still in shock that this amazing organization exists in our community to help families find the care that they need for their youngest family members. There is nothing more stressful than not having childcare for your little ones when you need to work - and not having a way to make both work. Thank you, Childcare Spaces, for all that you have done for me and my family, and all of the other families in our community, what you are doing for our community feels like miracle work.

I'm a grandparent that became the parent of my young grandson through default. He had been receiving services through Whatcom Center for Early Learning for speech therapy, who gave me a list of childcare resources. I was already on 3 childcare waiting lists for over 4 months.

He had been receiving services through Whatcom Center for Early Learning for speech therapy, who gave me a list of childcare resources. I was already on 3 childcare waiting lists for over 4 months. With preschool nearing the end of the year and summer quickly approaching, I continued my search. I was almost ready to give up when I applied to Childcare Spaces. They accepted my application and immediately sent me a weekly list of childcare options. We found camp Keystone, an outdoor nature themed camp and enrolled for a month. He liked it so I sent a text to Angelique at Childcare spaces with a request and she added on 2 more weeks!
What I love about Childcare Spaces is that only one registration opens up multiple childcare options. With their help, it was easy to apply and it made the difference between some childcare and no childcare. Being a parent again wasn't in my retirement plan but Childcare Spaces really made a difference for our family. Thank you for your creative approach to childcare!
Frequently Asked Questions
Who provides the childcare?
Childcare is provided by licensed childcare centers and licensed in-home daycare providers across Whatcom County, including Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Blaine, and surrounding areas.
In the future, we will be expanding to include nannies, babysitters, and private caregivers who may not hold a childcare license, but will all be background checked. These additional providers will only be private pay and have individual rates.
Who can use this service?
Guardians: We have providers on the platform that serve 0-12 year olds. If you see a space available for your child you can book it!
That being said, our special drop-in subsidies are only for residents of Whatcom County and children aged 0–5 years old (some 6-year-olds may qualify depending on need).
Families outside Whatcom County are welcome to use ChildcareSpaces.com and private-pay for your childcare.
Providers: If you are a licensed center or in-home program you can use this to post your drop-in or permanent spaces. We will pay you monthly for the spaces you fill. If you fill a permanent spot you will no longer receive payments for that family through us. Post drop-in spaces you have available or if you have a child out sick or on vacation and/or permanent spaces you are trying to fill.
If you are a nanny, babysitter, before or aftercare program etc. with a valid background check, you are welcome to post your spaces. You will receive private pay payments directly from the family.
How quickly can I get approved for a space?
Once you submit a request the provider will accept or deny your request. It usually happens in less than 24 hours. If you are denied it could be for a lot of different reasons ranging from a teacher being out sick or unable to support your child's special needs. Feel free to submit a request for another provider. You may also request with the same provider in the future unless they notate they are not able to support your child for specific reasons.
What is the cost for private-pay guardians?
Once a provider approves your space we will send you an invoice. You will make payment directly to Peace Centers through a payment link before your child attends the program. If you need to pay us a different way please contact us at 360-595-3391
Private-pay rates vary based on your child's age and whether you choose a childcare center or family-based in-home daycare.
